Upcoming EU Events

The following EU-related events are taking place in January, 2018:

International trade and globalisation - Implications for regional growth, employment and industrial renewal (January 22, Brussels)

The workshop organised by the CoR will be an opportunity to look into the growing concern about the local and regional impact of international trade and globalisation as well as the evidence that some local economies and communities lack resilience in the face of this pressure. Issues that will be explored include the possible links between trade, industry specialisation, regional competitiveness and regional inequalities.

After the presentation of the main findings of the study on Interactions between Trade, Investment and Trends in the EU Industry: EU regions in international trade conducted by the European Parliamentary Research Service, a panel debate will focus on the possible avenues for making trade and globalisation work as an engine for regional growth, employment and industrial renewal.

Policies for an ageing workforce: Work-life balance, working conditions and equal opportunities (January 24, Brussels)

Eurofound and the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) and National Institute for Social and Economic Research (NIESR) are jointly organising a conference on policies for an ageing work force. The event will provide a lively platform to discuss the changing demographic of Europe’s workforce and will examine more sustainable policies for providing better work-life balance and working conditions. It will also address the inequalities associated with the diversity among older peoples’ situations in the labour market, and their health and life expectancy.

Second European Industry Day (February 22-23, Brussels)

This event will update stakeholders on the Commission's strategic approach to industrial policy and actions to further develop industrial competitiveness in Europe. It will also serve as a forum where stakeholders contributing to European industrial competitiveness can showcase their activities, learn from each other, discuss cross-cutting issues and develop joint visions for the future.

Organisations, companies and public authorities across Europe will also be able to submit proposals to organise local, regional or national events under the 'European Industry Week' brand. Interested parties should submit their proposals by January 8.
