Iberdrola Chairman speaks at UN on opportunities created by a low carbon economy
Ignacio Galán, Chairman of Iberdrola, stressed the key role that the electricity sector holds in achieving a low-carbon economy, at a high-level meeting as part of the opening of the UN General Assembly in New York and Cimate Week NYC.
Galán believes that the electricity sector has an opportunity to drive quick and effective decarbonisation, which also has pontential to bring about new employment and welfare opportunities.
The Chairman also called for co-operation in fighting climate change, by highlighting the shared responsibility involving every sector. Taking advantage of the opportunities provided by a clean economy and by developing regulatory frameworks, were the main tools Galán highlighted attracting investment and creating value for everyone.
Ibedrola played a prominent role in the Climate Week NYC. With the signing of an agreement to work alongside Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), a United Nations platform promoting access to sustainable energy, Ibedrola aims to ensure universal and affordable access to safe, modern energy, in line with the UN SDG 7.
