Raw Materials Week 2018

12-16 November, Brussels

Following the success of the Raw Materials Week 2017, the 3rd edition of the EU 'Raw Materials Week' will take place from Monday 12 to Friday 16 November 2018 in Brussels. It builds upon a series of events organised by the European Commission, addressing the latest news on raw materials in the EU.

This year’s event will bring together key actors from the raw materials community to discuss and exchange ideas and best practices on all relevant issues: policy, technology, international cooperation, framework conditions, knowledge base etc.

Conference: Financing Energy Efficiency in Malta and Italy

November 22, Malta

This conference aims to share best practices from Malta and Italy as well as other countries on how to finance energy efficiency investments. It will cover, among others, experience gained with the use of private funds and innovative financing instruments, notably in the building and industry sectors.

The event is organised by the European Commission in partnership with the UN Environment Finance Initiative, the Ministry for Energy and Water Management of Malta and the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects of Malta.

Conference: "People’s food - people’s health: Towards healthy and sustainable European Food Systems"

November 22-23, Vienna

This two-days event will facilitate the dialogue between all the relevant stakeholders in the food arena. It will give an interesting and fresh perspective to the link between food production and consumption, and environment.

Healthy and sustainable food systems can become an essential factor not only to reduce diet-related diseases, but also to preserve the environment. Indeed, ameliorating the food chain will bring many benefits for the ecosystem as well as the economic system and will improve social wellbeing of European citizens.

High-level conference on the future of corporate reporting in a digital & sustainable economy

November 30, Brussels

Following the recent public consultation on corporate reporting, this high-level conference is an additional opportunity for key players to share their views and debate on the future of corporate reporting.

The conference will be hosted by Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis from the European Commission. Besides the keynote speeches and possibly some interactive audience engagement, there will be four panel sessions around the following themes:

  • Is corporate reporting still fit for purpose and for upcoming challenges?
  • Are accounting rules for EU capital markets coherent with the EU policy objectives of promoting long-term and sustainable investments?
  • Towards relevant sustainability disclosure?
  • Corporate reporting: time to embrace the digital revolution?

Tackling premature obsolescence in Europe

November 30, Brussels

This exciting event organized by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will explore the topic of circular economy in Europe. Particularly, it will take a take stock of the action taken by the EU institutions, Member States and business to tackle planned obsolescence, and its impact on consumers and to discuss new ways of action.

Sustainable building conference: Level (s) – Bringing buildings into the circular economy

December 12, Brussels

This one-day event is focused on ‘Level(s)’ - the European Commission’s new sustainable building reporting framework which aims to provide the insights that will shape future building sector policy.

Level(s) is aimed at creating a common European drive towards improved performance across six areas: lifecycle emissions, resource efficiency, water use, health and comfort, resilience and adaptation, and cost and value. With over 130 building projects in 21 countries now testing Level(s), the conference will be a good opportunity to network with the community who is shaping the future of the EU building sector policy, and hear from market leading voices, including Karmenu Vella, European Commissioner for Environment, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs.
