CSR Ukraine launches project to popularise STEM careers among girls in Ukraine

A project aimed at popularising STEM careers among girls, has been launched in Ukraine by CSR Europe's Ukrainian national partner, Ukrainian Centre of Corporate Social Responsibility Development.

The project called #GirlsSTEM, was set up to popularise STEM professions – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – among Ukrainian girls in choosing their education and career path.

The Head of the Centre of Corporate Social Responsibility Development Maryna Saprykina emphasises the goals of the project: “We are launching this project to help girls to not be afraid and choose scientific and technical professions, to see their future in these professions and remain in Ukraine. For this purpose we have created a community of TOP 20 inspirational women in STEM, who will share their experiences and knowledge with senior girls”.

20 Ukrainian women successful in STEM industries joined the project to inspire and mentor the girls. Among them - top managers of IT and technology companies, academics, representatives of ministries, universities and NGOs, including lady managers from international companies as SAP, Microsoft Ukraine, Luxoft Ukraine, GlobalLogic, Fujikura etc.

Ukraine ranks 67th in the Gender Gap Index, one of the lowest in Europe. Although the employment rate for women is relatively high in Ukraine at 57.1%, women are still paid 25% less than men.
