European vocational skills week 2019 (14-18 October. Helsinki, Finland)


The 4th edition of the European vocational skills week is entitled “Vocational education and training (VET) for all – Skills for life”.

The European Vocational Skills Week exists to highlight excellence in vocational education and training (VET), showing that VET can be as good a route to a quality career and life as any other learning pathway.


The European vocational skills week will host 407 separate events, representing 37 countries.

Skills for SMEs: Fostering the adoption of cyber-security, big data and internet of things (15 October. Brussels, Belgium)


This event brings together over 200 experts from industry, trade unions, education and training organisations, governments and small business associations from across Europe, in order to address the importance of skills development and upskilling of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to support their digital transformation.


A vision, roadmap and toolbox will be presented, which have been developed with the support of stakeholders from across Europe, and it will be discussed the necessity to make SMEs more cyber resilient, successful mechanisms to engage SMEs in upskilling, and how to ensure more and better education and training offers tailored to their specific needs.

Sustainability and competition policy: Bridging two worlds to enable a fairer economy (24 October. Brussels, Belgium)


The European Committee of the Regions (CoR), the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), the Fair Trade Advocacy Office, the Global competition law centre of the College of Europe, and the Center for economics, law and society at University College of London, with the support of the German Ministry for economic cooperation and development, will be jointly organising this conference.


The conference will focus on the connection between competition law and sustainability, examining how to align EU policies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fighting against increasing social disparities and improving the wellbeing of people while remaining within the environment limits of the planet.


European Commissioner for competition Margrethe Vestager will deliver the keynote address, which will be followed by a debate.
