New Call for the 3rd Edition of the International Energy Cooperation Awards
  • Created in 2015 and on a biennial basis by Iberdrola and the Club de Excelencia en Sostenibilidad, this award fits objective 7.1 of the SDGs for awarding major projects that guarantee universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services
  • This award has three categories that recognize the work of companies, public administrations and third sector


Madrid, September 11, 2019.- Iberdrola and Club de Excelencia en Sostenibilidad open the call for the third edition of the "III International Energy Cooperation Awards". These awards recognize the most outstanding initiatives in international energy cooperation carried out by companies, public administrations and third sector that demonstrate an active commitment in the universalization of energy. All this contributing to the consolidation of the 7th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) that seeks access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. Specifically, target 7.1, which by 2030, looks to guarantee universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services.


The III International Energy Cooperation Awards will recognize the activity of the three categories mentioned with projects under development at the time of submitting the application and whose action takes place at international level, with verifiable results and that have taken into account the concept of energy cooperation in its triple economic, environmental and social aspects.


Projects as the UN marks in the aforementioned SDG N.7:


- Increase international cooperation to facilitate access to research and technology related to clean energy, including renewable sources, energy efficiency and advanced and less polluting fossil fuel technologies, and to promote investment in energy infrastructure and clean technologies.


- Expand infrastructure and improve technology to provide modern and sustainable energy services for all in developing countries, in particular, least developed countries, small island developing States and landlocked developing countries, in line with their respective support programs.

A prize will be awarded in each of the categories - company, public administration and the third sector. 


The assessment of the candidacies will be carried out by a jury composed of renowned experts at the corporate and institutional level, who will take into account the impact and value creation of the initiatives; the contribution to sustainable development; the consistency and permanence of the project over time; the replicability of the model; the innovative character; the international scope of the projects; and the existence of clear objectives and monitoring indicators.


Previous editions


More than fifty projects were evaluated in the previous editions of the awards.


In 2017, the winners were Trama TecnoAmbiental, in the category of Company with its Rural Electrification project through hybrid solar micro-networks in a remote islands of Ghana; the National Institute of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies of Ecuador (INER), in the category of Public Administrations for its contribution to the study of the viability of bioethanol production from the enzymatic hydrolysis of the Jatropha Curcas seed shell, known as a pinion and Nexus for Development which was the third award-winning entity in the third sector, for the Pioneer Facility project, which provides technical assistance and innovative financial solutions for project developers and social enterprises with the creation of a specific impact investment fund -Pioneer Facility- aimed at access to clean energy in Southeast Asia.


In the first edition of 2015, the jury awarded the nominations of Suma Capital together with AttijariWafa Bank, for the African Energy Efficiency Fund in the category for companies; the Renewable Energy project for the sustainable development of rural communities and distributed power generation in Latin America and the Caribbean of Ciemat in the category of Public Administration and the Engineers Foundation of ICAI for Development, as a non-profit organization, for the project Renewable Energy Center in Cameroon.
