European Commission announces Horizon2020 investment
On October 27, the European Commission announced to which priorities areas it will allocate €30 billion of the Horizon 2020 budget over the next three years.
The topics where the European Commission will seek greater impact of its research funding are, among others:
- A low-carbon, climate resilient future
- Circular Economy
- Digitising and transforming European industry and services
- Security Union
- Migration
A total of €2.2 billion will go to clean energy projects in four interrelated areas: renewables, energy efficient buildings, electro-mobility and storage solutions, including €200 million to support the development and production of the next generation of electric batteries in Europe.
Horizon 2020 will also be more geared towards boosting breakthrough, market-creating innovation.
