GRACE promotes 12th edition of biggest Portuguese corporate volunteering initiative, G.I.R.O.

After the big forest fires that devastated Portugal during the summer, causing the largest burned territory in the last decade, and aligned with the SDGs, GRACE considered dedicating this 12th edition of G.I.R.O. to fire prevention initiatives.

On October 13, 54 companies (associate members of GRACE), 7 academic entities and more than 850 volunteers will be participating in 8 initiatives in Portuguese territory: Valongo, Penela, Sintra, Lisbon, Barreiro, Silves, Funchal (Madeira) and S. Miguel (Azores).

In partnership with organisations dedicated to the environment, nature and patrimony, this day will be dedicated to reforestation and territorial management in burned and degraded areas, cleaning and rehabilitation of residential areas and public spaces, and raising awareness of environmental citizenship and civil protection.

G.I.R.O. – GRACE, Intervene, Recover, Organize – is the largest corporate volunteering initiative in Portugal, which has already gathered over 7000 volunteers and 19000 beneficiaries, in the previous eleven editions.
