Newsweek Green Ranking 2017 has listed five CSR Europe members as leaders in their industry, including L'Oreal SA, Toyota Motor Corp, Microsoft, Corp, Hitachi Ltd and BASF SE.
L'Oreal topped the entire Global 500 list as the world’s greenest company. Toyota ranked number 16, making it number one in the automobile category.
Microsoft ranked number 28 in Global 500, which made it number one in the Software industry. Hitachi was named the leader in the Electronic Equipment, Instruments & Components category, with its ranking of 36. BASF topped the listing in the Chemical industry with number 72 ranking in Global 500.
The annual Newsweek Green Rankings score the world’s largest publicly traded companies, using eight metrics (Energy, GHG, Water, Waste, Green Revenue, Sustainability Pay Link, Sustainability Board Committee and Audited Environmental Metric) to measure their sustainability performance.
The highest ranked company in each Industry Group is also determined, when there are at least two companies in the industry on the ranking and the company’s overall rank is higher than 250.
